About

Who Am I?

I received my M.S in Applied Mathematics from UMass Amherst in 2010, and after 2.5 more years of working towards my Ph.D., I left to work at E Ink in 2013.

While in school, I studied dynamical systems and did research in nonlinear waves in discrete systems. Specifically, I did research into discreate breathers, which is a type of oscillating nonlinear wave that concentrates energy in a localized fashion.

At E Ink, I have three primary roles
  1. Solving problems with numerical optimization. The objective functions I need to optimize are extremely messy: nonlinear, nonconvex, mixed-integer, constrained, black-box, derivative-free and moderately expensive to evaluate. This presents me with a lot of very interesting challenges.
  2. I conduct electro-optical experiments on our displays in order to create and evaluate various waveform performance metrics.
  3. I write software (mostly in MATLAB, but also C++, Java, and Python) that enables myself and my colleagues to perform electro-optical experiments and analyze data

What Is This Blog?

Like most blogs, this is an outlet for me to record and refine my thoughts over time. The topics will be mostly technical in nature, related to things I'm working on, or new things I'm learning.
